CREATING A NEW CULTURE OF PREVENTION

Rachel's News -- Helping you protect democracy, nature, and human health and since 1986

Dear Readers and Supporters,

We just returned from the first National Conference on Precaution which was a huge success! Three hundred and twenty-five people attended -- a capacity crowd -- from all walks of the movement to take back our democracy, protect nature, and secure the well being of future generations. The conference was a tribute to how far this visionary principle has come. And it was a reminder that we have our work cut out for us. We need your help to keep the precautionary ball rolling.

Right now in this country there is a battle going on between the proponents of precaution -- arguably the most important tool for environmental protection in the modern era -- and those amongst us who believe that 'business as usual' is the key to a prosperous AND JUST society. In March of 2006 the U.S. Chamber of Commerce came out against the precautionary, preventive approach because it threatens industry's tight control of environmental regulation and decision making.

With your donation we will continue to be a leading advocate of precaution -- for environmental protection AND sustainable economic development -- in the U.S., Canada and abroad. We've been writing about precaution since 1991 and in 2006 we launched a major effort to spread precaution "like the wind" through hands-on trainings with community activists, government officials, and concerned citizens who know there is a better way to minimize harm to the planet, our health, and future generations.

PLEASE support our work so that we can bring Rachel's News, Rachel's Precaution Reporter and hands-on workshops to youth leaders, community activists, and public health professionals across the U.S. and Canada. To donate by phone call: 888-272-2435; or use a printable form that you can mail or fax back.

With your support we are offering need-based scholarships to our precaution academy trainings and providing technical assistance to community organizations fighting tooth and nail for a cleaner, safer tomorrow. We are also developing a new program on precautionary economic development based on the principles of local living economies that will strengthen communities from the grass-roots up. Make a secure donation today and say yes! to the environment; yes! to good-paying jobs with benefits; yes! to better health; and yes! to social justice for all people!

Our work is truly about making the connection between the three environments -- the natural, the built AND the social environments. Our movement for a cleaner safer tomorrow will only succeed when we transcend and include the social roots of injustice that hold us back. Your donation will allow us to continue to provide critical news and resources to environmental and social activists who are taking back our democracy and the well being of future generations from polluters and profiteers.

Remember, precaution gives us something to be FOR. Precaution is a lens for sustainable development. THERE IS A BETTER WAY and with your help we will succeed in realizing our full-potential of peace, freedom and justice. PLEASE support our work and make a secure donation online now. To donate by phone call: 888-272-2435; Click here for a printable form that you mail or fax.

We need your contribution today to reach new minds and open new doors for preventing harm to the planet and future generations. So please make a donation today. Whether its $50 or $500, your contribution makes a huge difference to keeping our small operation going.

Thank you for your ongoing readership and support!

Sincerely,

Peter Montague, Executive Director

Ed Begley Jr., President of the Board
